The Central Hockey League celebrates its 18th season of play in 2009-2010 continuing to build on a tradition of outstanding competition and entertainment first established in the early 90’s. In the CHL’s first four seasons of play, the CHL had the unique distinction of centralized ownership. Now, all of the CHL’s current 15 member clubs are operated independently.
Arguably the most significant change over the past 18 years came in May of 2001, as the Central and Western Professional Hockey Leagues joined forces at a press conference in Oklahoma that combined the top markets within both organizations under the CHL banner. The merger has been highly successful, with the CHL reaching several significant attendance marks in each season since. In the 2008-2009 campaign, close to two million people walked through the gates at games in the CHL. In six of the past eight seasons, the CHL has led all “AA” professional hockey leagues in average attendance.
The CHL welcomes the Allen Americans and the Missouri Mavericks this season as expansion franchises. The Americans will play in the Allen Event Center and the Mavs will call the Independence Events Center home. Both teams open their respective buildings in early November.
The CHL is administered by a wholly-owned subsidiary of Global Entertainment Corporation (Global Stock Symbol: GNTP) a company engaged in sports management, multi-purpose events and entertainment center and related real estate development, facility and venue management and marketing, and venue ticketing.

The RGV Iceholes is a growing group of adults, currently numbering 55, that have just recently learned to play hockey. Most are from the Valley and have never had a chance to spend any time on the ice until recently. Thanks to the RGV ICE CENTER and the DODGE ARENA, we now have two great places to skate.
